WHAT WE DO

Backup Media Acquisition

Cricket can acquire data from virtually any source and any backup media, not just the usual backup tape media, Cricket can forensically acquire data from:

  • Thumb drives
  • Browser caches
  • Bookmarks
  • Building access control systems
  • CCTV security systems
  • Dictation audio tape
  • ROM cards
  • Firewall logs
  • Ghost Keys and Keyboards
  • Internet postings
  • Memory Cards
  • PBX/CDR reports
  • Voice Mail Messages
  • Web-based email (e.g. “Hot Mail”)
  • Web based Storage “Free Drive”
  • Zip and Jazz drives
  • Floppy disks and Compact diskettes
  • Video tapes
  • Mobile phones

We use Veritas, Arcserve, Legato, Linux, and custom utilities for tape restoration. Damaged media is typically re-acquired, but we also utilize powerful software-based techniques to attempt to recover data.

Our system is compatible with industry standard Unix backup formats (TAR, dump, CPIO) and formats such as:

Veritas
Arcserve
Legato
Retrospect

We use the tape indexes to both complete the restoration and provide the client with a catalog of files and directories that can be used as the basis for conducting selective restoration.
